2012 Capital City Criterium

The Nebraska road racing season fires up again with the Flatwater Cycling Weekend presented by Lincoln Industries, May 19-20. Celebrating its fourth consecutive year since being revived in 2009, the Flatwater Cycling Weekend presented by Lincoln Industries features two days of racing in the capitol city including the Capital City Criterium on Saturday and the Pioneers Park Grand Prix on Sunday.

“This race has come and gone through the years, but we remain committed to keeping it on the Nebraska race calendar for years to come,” says Race Director, Sean Craig. “It is important to our team, our sponsors and most importantly, the local cycling community.”

In addition to cash prizes for top finishers in select race categories, the Flatwater Cycling Weekend presented by Lincoln Industries will feature cash and merchandise primes (aka “lap prizes”) as well as custom trophies and medals. Both days of racing are a part of the 2012 Nebraska Cycling Association “Road Rider of the Year” competition. Complete information for the races can be found online at www.nebraskacyclingnews.comAlong with the competitive events, the Flatwater Cycling Weekend is proud to join with the City of Lincoln and Stronger Safer Neighborhoods for the “Biketacular” family cycling event on Saturday, May 19. The festivities will take place near McPhee Elementary School just steps away from the Capital City Criterium race course at 15th & G Streets from 10:00am to 12:00pm. There will be information on bicycling in Lincoln, bike decorating, a kids bike parade as well as a bike safety rodeo. Prior to the cycling events and Biketacular, The Gathering Place will host their 2nd Annual “Race for the Place 5K.” Details are available for this 5K by contacting The Gathering Place, 402-476-7398.Pre-registration is required for both days of racing and is available online at www.usacycling.org. For racers planning to attend one or both days of racing, please note that no day-of registrations will be accepted. Online registration closes for BOTH days of racing on Friday, May 18 at 7:00pm CDT.All races are sanctioned by USA Cycling and require a USAC racing license. “One-Day” licenses ($10) and annual licenses ($60) may be purchased online at www.usacycling.org when registering for the races. Entry fees include a USA Cycling insurance surcharge, online registration fee and AMB Chip Timing rental fee. For those riders wishing to race multiple events on one or both days, the entry fee for a second race on the same day is just $10. Please note this must be done online.
